Advanced see me about you blog if you did not get a comment - I will be putting in grades for your weekly updates - if they are not there it might be a problems - no, there is a problem!

Hey, I went over your sites - many of you have not been posting. Aldo I do not have everyone's address.

Everyone - even returning students - must resent their URL to my 'contact' form.  If you did not get a comment on your blog then I couldn't see it or there was nothing on it - this is a problem!

Make sure your pages are 'blog' pages so I can comment.

KEEP YOUR WORK SAFE OVER BREAK - EITHER WET IN A BAG OR DRYING IN YOUR LOCKER - DO NOT OVER BURDEN THE BISQUE CART - STUFF WILL BREAK!!

I should be able to talk again after break so I'll see you then. In the mean time - Make Art!

Again, look at the instructions for the soft slab on the documents page.

All new students should have a pinch, coil and soft slab done by Friday. Remember the instructions are all on the documents page - so make sure you can read them.

Let things dry in your locker we will do some massive firing when i get back.

Advanced students - remember one blog per week! I will start checking.

A'right crickets, here's the deal - I am down for the count (bronchitis and laryngitis) and counting on you all to pull through. Look at the lessons I left on this blog - they also appear on the documents page. Please have the pinch, coil and soft slab projects completed by the end of the week. Make sure the room is being kept somewhat clean.

Advanced - please make sure clay is being sludged and recycled. I'm relying on my crack team of TA's to help in this matter.

After break we will do firm slab and wheel projects.

Remember everyone to think about three dimensional decorations on a three dimensional form. It should look different from different sides.

Look to each other for inspiration and may the force of art be strong with you.

I miss you all!

click here to see soft slab instructions!

Be careful with your green ware. Keep it safe in your locker until I can come in and fire it!

Advanced students - Check last semesters assignment list and see that you should be on about the third assignment... Make sure you are keeping the place clean and organized. Work with each other on the clay.

You should have two blog entries in by now and make sure you have sent me VIA THE COMMENT FORM your URL.

TA's please keep the clay supply going

Keep coiling! Remember the basics of three-d design. Think about negative space. The project should look different from different views. I

It needs to be all the same thickness.

All coils need to be put on one at a time.

use your toothed rib to attach the inside and then smooth with the blue rib.

Do most of your finishing work on Friday when it's leather soft or hard. Do not let it dry too fast or it will fall apart.

Keep things in your locker until I am there to run the kiln on Monday.

I am sooo sorry - I have the flu sooo bad  - my physician says I can not come back until Monday - :P

Help each other in this time of my absence. I really miss being there and feeling like myself!

Continue on coil pots. Make sure each coil is attached one at a time by slipping and scoring. Make sure your project has a distinct form, rhythm and at least three kinds of coils.

Please start on your coil project if you are done with your pinch project.

Coil Project

Start with a pinch pot base that is wide and low (not more than 1” tall.) The walls should be wide enough to support the coils you will be putting on it – about a finger width wide.

Roll coils using the fingers of both hands that are about the width of your fingers.

Use the scoring and slipping method to attach the coils. Make the structure of the coils visible from the outside, but smooth each coil on the inside. This will ensure that the project stays together. When coils fall off it is a sure sign that the coil was not attached correctly.

Coil project should show

Form – the project should not be a cylinder – it must flair out from the base and then change shape from there.

At least three kinds of coils – plain, dots, swirls, …

Positive and negative space – there should be some holes in the structure.

Regular or irregular repeating pattern to show rhythm

The design of the project will be reflected in its structure.

Get your pinch pots near finished. We will look at coil pots tomorrow. Remember we need three dimensional decorations on a three dimensional form. This is the day to cut open the box.

Advanced students make sure your first blog is up and that you have sent me you URL on the contact form.

Ms. H

Remember Friday is special because

We have a short period - we can still be productive but we need to be super focused on our work.

Also - remember to make sure anything you want to keep workable for Monday MUST be wraped tightly in plastic or it will be dry on Friday.

IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO REWET CLAY! IF IT'S UNFINISHED AND DRY IT NEEDS TO GO BACK IN THE BUKCET OF WATER AND CLAY!

ADVANCED STUDENTS YOU MUST HAVE YOUR FIRST POST UP BY MONDAY. THAT MEANS I NEED YOUR WEB ADRESS SENT TO ME ON MY CONTACT FORM. SEE ME TODAY IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS ON HOW TO DO THIS. YOUR FIRST BLOG WILL BE GRADED.
